Working towards a more conscious and sustainable world
People. Products. Planet.
Minimizing our impact on the environment and maximizing our impact in our community is woven into the fabric of our business.
Our Commitment
People
Commitment begins with our team's wellbeing and extends to our customers and the communities around us.
Products
We care deeply about developing meaningful products that touch women's lives and make a real difference in their everyday.
Planet
Minimizing our impact on the environment is at the heart of what we do and influences every decision we make.
Sustainability Pledge
Sustainability is a big part of our company philosophy. But we’re realists and know that building a sustainable and profitable business is hard. It takes time and perseverance, so it’s important we share our progress with our community along the way.
We like to think of it as a living commitment that grows and evolves with Numi. Our aim is to develop beautiful, sustainable and practical products that inspire people to shop more sustainably without sacrificing style or effectiveness. We are aware that making a real difference to the planet will require a major shift from the corporate world as a whole. Our long-term ambition is to build a successful business model that is both profitable and has a positive impact on the wider world. We intend to share our learnings, and hopefully, this will inspire and empower other businesses to do the same.
Our ultimate goal is to build a circular business model, meaning:
‣We’re not just focused on maximizing profit or cutting costs to the detriment of our impact
‣We’ll take a bottom-up approach to redesigning and restructuring products and systems to
meet our long-term sustainability goals
We plan to share our progress, challenges and learnings along the way.
We are in the process of auditing ourselves and will release our sustainability report card later this year.
Where we are
The average person in North America throws away 81 pounds of textiles annually. And 73% of clothing ends up in land fills. Our undershirt collection is designed to extend the life of clothes, and reduce clothing waste.
One cotton t-shirt uses 2,700 litres of water. Or enough drinking water to sustain one human for three years. Our undershirts are made from sustainable TENCEL™ which is processed in a closed-loop facility. This process recycles water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.
The fashion industry is responsible for 10 % of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. We manufacture our whole garment, from knitting and dying our yarns to sewing our garments, locally in Toronto, Canada to minimize our shipping impact.
Stay tuned for our full sustainability audit to be released later this year.
And thank you for joining us on our mission to create kinder products.
